Where Bloggers Create II

I'm so excited to be participating in Karen Valentine's Where Bloggers Create  2nd Annual Blog Party this year . . . I discovered her blog, My Desert Cottage, while reading the latest issue of Somerset Studio's Where Women Create and knew that I wanted to play along and peek into the spaces you create in . . .

I actually took over our guest room about 9 months ago, shortly after I started my blog (they seemed to want each other). I found that my art supplies out numbered my guests, and since I really did need a place to organise all the things I was hoarding, the supplies won . . . So, I exchanged the bed and B & W french-inspired decor for a pull out couch (sorry, friends) and walls of soft pink with grey swirls. It's girly I know, but although our four year-old calls it her "studio," (and you will often find tiny dinosaurs lurking around), it really does seem to represent me and the things I love.

So welcome to our studio . . .

 A peek through the mirror

(All pictures below show the room from left to right)
Family secretary that houses glass urns filled with supplies

 This jar's more decorative:
it holds a collection of Kendra's old pacifiers
Altered books and journals are stacked on top of a
small craft cabinet in the corner

The inside of my Hobby Hideaway, which is usually not this neat
A favorite postcard lives in a plexiglas drawer on the left
The right door showcases some birthday invitations and a gift
(the fish with the crown) from a class I took with Misty Mawn
 The way out.
The shelf to the left often holds a variety of art pieces
 Kendra's corner.
Especially funny if you knew how much of a tomboy she is!
French doors and a hanging basket with an old chandelier crystal
A favorite necklace hangs from an empty picture frame
Magazine rack (yes, I am Somerset obsessed)
and stacked boxes for supplies

These boxes house patterns, ledgers, vintage children's illustrations,
 feathers and rub-ons

A recent addition to the room: my vision statement banner from

Now that you have seen our studio, I will show you where, despite the best of intentions with the room above, I really create . . . sigh . . .

 Our kitchen counter!

Thank you for your visit (and I didn't even make you sleep on a pull-out). I look forward to seeing all of your places and creative spaces . . .

What a great and inviting studio you have, Kristin. I'm so glad that you gave us a tour. My favorite part is the secretary with all of the glass jars for storage (cool) and of course--Kendra's studio!

Hi again....

Thank you for visiting!

Gluebooks are not really like a journal... they are just about paper and glue! They can be modern (junk mail) or vintage, found paper, ephemera, old photos. Generally there's no writing or ink. But really, there are no rules! I did an online class with Mary and it was amazing.

That just cracked me up! I love your beautiful craft room...the stenciling on the wall, the supplies in the secretary and the suitcases picking up some of that French motif. It makes me laugh to hear where you really do your crafting! I also have a bead supply room and a paper/fabric room but I do my crafting sitting in my electric bed with the TV or music on!

We are three months old (in blog time) and are a mother/daughter team. I didn't get the space cleaned but stop by sometime, if you wish.

I am so glad I read all the way to the end. Thank you for the laugh and I so get that. I sew in the dining room even though I have the PERFECT height sewing tables (which also allow the machines to be stored below) in my work room.
I have just decided I need to MOVE THOSE TO THE DINING ROOM! And think of the space I will have in the design room, lol.

Love love Love your space and I am jealous of it. I had to laugh at the last bit as I end up doing all of my work on our kitchen nook table too, even tho I have a space for it elsewhere. This is a lovely space though, and I envy your supplies and organization.

Smiles!

kristin, you have such a lovely, happy space - i love that you share it with your daughter
( could she be any cuter or spunkier?! ).

i love the stenciling on the walls and i completely feel you on the supplies outweighing the guests...studio space is far more important to our sanity, i think than guests...i'll tell you sometime why the mr. and i no longer receive guests during mardi gras! :)
i also loved the "fess up" about the kitchen counter...ha! i think we can all relate to that.
thanks for the follow...right back atcha!

Your room is just beautiful. I had to laugh at your last statement...with little ones around it's hard not to end up in the kitchen creating. You gotta keep your eyes on them and they want you near. Enjoy those moments, they will be over too soon. Blessings, Patty

What a great studio space....I too end up "spreading" my art throughout the house when there just isn't enough room in the studio....or you need water for a project so you take to the kitchen :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog for the studio party Saturday! I'm just now getting to hop around and see all the great studio spaces, what fun! Look forward to seeing your future posts....

I am particularly fascinated by the hot air balloon in the corner. I love the colors. This is a very well put together room. I love it that Kendra has her own corner in it too. I also like the idea of using the secretary to display glass bottles. Thank you for sharing and for coming by to visit my space.

I think we all tend to spill out of our spaces, my kitchen table is currently covered with drying box tops. Thank you for a peek into your private creative haven.

I took over my son's room when he moved out so we don't a place for gusts at all! At least you gave yours a fold out couch! LOL! I love the pink and grey color scheme too. And yes, we ALL do tend to spill out into other rooms all the time! Thank you so much for joining the party and letting us have a peak!
